Preparation & Fitness

How fit do I need to be for these treks?

Fitness requirements vary by trek difficulty:

  • Easy treks: Good general health, able to walk 4-5 hours with breaks
  • Moderate treks: Regular exercise, able to walk 6-7 hours with elevation gain
  • Challenging treks: Excellent fitness, hiking experience, able to walk 8+ hours with significant elevation
  • Expeditions: Specialist training and experience required

We recommend starting a training program at least 2-3 months before your trek.

How should I train for a high-altitude trek?

For high-altitude treks, we recommend:

  • Cardiovascular training (running, cycling, swimming) 3-4 times per week
  • Hiking with a loaded backpack (gradually increasing weight)
  • Stair climbing or hill walking
  • Strength training for legs and core
  • If possible, do some training hikes at altitude

Our team can provide personalized training advice when you book.

Difficulty Levels

How do you classify trek difficulty?

We use a 5-level system:

  • Level 1 (Easy): Well-marked trails, minimal elevation, 3-5 hours/day
  • Level 2 (Moderate): Some steep sections, 5-7 hours/day, up to 2,500m elevation
  • Level 3 (Challenging): Steep terrain, 7-9 hours/day, up to 4,000m elevation
  • Level 4 (Strenuous): Technical sections, high altitude, 8-10 hours/day
  • Level 5 (Expedition): Extreme altitude, glacier travel, camping, 10+ hours/day

Each trek description includes its difficulty level.
